Find out More About our Stretch Films
Stretch film is made from polyethylene (PE), a thermoplastic polymer. The polyethylene is melted into a liquid form in an extrusion plant under high temperatures and pressures and then extruded into films. The plastic is pushed through a nozzle and applied as a flat, thin layer. The film is then wound onto rolls and can be printed and/or perforated according to the needs.
Stretch film can be stretched due to its chemical structure to conform to the shape of the object being packed. Polyethylene is a thermoplastic material that exhibits high elongation and elasticity. By stretching the film, the polymer chains of the material are pulled apart, causing them to align and fit closely. When the film is unwound, the stored energy is released in the form of tension, causing the film to shrink and conform to the shape of the object being packed.
There are different types of stretch films that are suitable for different applications. Machine stretch film is used in automated packaging systems, hand stretch film is applied manually, and stretch hood film is used to cover palletized goods. There are also special stretch films designed for use in the food industry or for protecting sensitive products such as electronic devices.
Stretch film provides high stability and protection against moisture, dirt, and dust. It also helps to keep the load on the pallet together and stabilize it, which helps to prevent damage during transport. Stretch film is also recyclable and can be reused, which helps to reduce the use of plastics.
The selection of the appropriate stretch film depends on various factors, such as the type of product, the size of the pallet, and the mode of transport. A high-quality stretch film with the appropriate thickness and stretchability should be chosen to ensure safe packaging. The thickness of the stretch film is measured in micrometers (µm) and depends on the size and weight of the item being packaged. Stretchability is expressed as a percentage and indicates how much the film can be stretched before it tears.
